Ending famine in Somalia, the Turkish way
SHORT-TERM RESCUE & LONG-TERM SOLUTIONS Turkey’s government brought emergency aid & services to famine-ravaged Somali’s in 2011 & 2012. Currently, the United Nation is again asking the International community to follow the Turkish model, which some experts have called “collective failures.”
Realizing the cycle of drought that naturally occurs in the Horn of Africa region, assisting governments have formed public and private partnerships–building airports, hospitals, and roads in the capital of Mogadishu and giving budgetary assistance to a previous Somali government in efforts to strengthen the area’s infrastructure. Former assi$tance however, did not make it properly into the pockets that needed it.
Experts obviously don’t understand why aspects of this model work and other aspects of it fail the poorest people. The Humanity Party® explains why.
While the incentivized addition of airports, roads, and hospitals are good and necessary to improving infrastructure, the poorest don’t benefit enough; with every successive drought, their poverty worsens. The situation is further exacerbated by their government’s inability to use those airports and roads to bring emergency water and food to the famine-ravaged people, or care for the starving in hospitals. Governments and experts continually fail to provide the inalienable human right of people to FBNL, i.e. food/water, clothing, shelter, healthcare, and education. By providing cards (rather than cash) for access to FBNL, people wouldn’t suffer from famine. Instead, they would be able to help themselves and their cities to build stronger, long-term sustainable infrastructures.
When people are empowered with basic resources to help themselves, corporations (public & private) do show up to profit from the opportunities of building areas further. Everyone win$. Donations are short-term. FBNL is a long-term solution. There is no excuse. The world has the technologies and resources to provide all people with FBNL. Humans are suffering and dying. What more incentive or proof do we need?
